On
your first
visit to McDhurries,
it 's easy
to see why
owners Thome
Muir and Dee
Chiavetta
have earned
local and
national awards
for having
the best place
to shop for
Oriental and
area rugs,
and why they've
had to expand
three times
since opening
in 1987.
Muir
says the key
to their success
is simple:
"Offer
the consumer
a good product
at a good
price and
treat people
fairly, the
way you want
to be treated
yourself."
Chiavetta
adds, "We
like to make
this an enjoyable
experience,
and we're
pleased when
people tell
us it's like
walking through
an art gallery."
Each
of the more
than 1,000
Oriental and
area rugs
hangs from
a movable
ceiling rack,
creating a
tapestry of
colors everywhere
you look and,
Muir says,
making their
store extremely
consumer-friendly.
Customers
don't have
to flip through
piles of rugs
on the floor
and have a
sales person
tell them
the price.
At
McDhurries,
the fact sheet
on each hanging
rug gives
the price,
the size and
the other
sizes in which
that rug is
available.
"In
our store,
there are
no secrets
and there
is no pressure,"
Muir says.
"You
can stroll
around and
shop on your
own, and if
you want us
to walk you
through, we'll
do that, whatever
the consumer
wants.
"We are
not 'hard
sell.'"
Chiavetta
adds, "We
don't like
that ourselves,
and we are
sure not going
to expose
our customers
to that."
